Story

On 23rd December 2021, Mr Muir, a very good prostate consultant, kindly told me that I had grade 7 prostate cancer and whilst there were other options, removing the prostate would be wise. I gently challenged whether this was necessary and he said, “no, but life expectancy would likely be considerably shorter”. On 17th February 2022 I had my prostate and cancer removed.

“Will I be able to run the London Marathon next October after the operation?"

"er…[pause]…Well that could be an objective”

Not exactly a ringing endorsement from the consultant, but it wasn’t “no”! So here I am. I might not have a prostate, but I no longer have cancer and I can run.

Fellas (>50) it is worth getting a PSA test. I had no symptoms. Prostate Cancer UK | Prostate Cancer UK has all the details.
