WHAT
I’ve decided to raise money for one of the worthiest of causes, Cancer Research UK.
HOW
I will be doing so by boxing at a charity event in Nottingham just before Christmas.
WHY
Life is literally too short. Too short for the people that have suffered and too short not to try something you’ve always fancied giving a go… even at 50 years old :-)
Sadly we have lost family to cancer as many people have. As well as family members and close friends who have been through treatments for various forms and survived, as well as some who are still battling it.
The few people I initially told have seemed surprised, chuffed, impressed and worried… all at once. But why not. Life is too short not to try something that you’ve always wondered “could I do it?”
WHY BOXING, COULDN'T YOU DO A COFFEE MORNING? (said one friend :-)
I love boxing anyway, always have. One of my earliest memories was at about 8 or 9 years old, watching Rocky on Betamax video at my cousins house, then me, my brother and a few cousins running behind my dad shadow boxing as we went, humming the theme tune, thinking we were in the film!!
I remember watching Hagler v Hearns as a 13yr old, through the rise of Mike Tyson, Naz and on to today with Fury, Joshua etc. I watch enough of it, so I thought I’d give it a go.
I did a couple of years of kick-boxing in my late teens, but have never been in a boxing ring, so at 50 years old I thought screw it, time to give it a go… wish me luck!!
WHEN
The 8 week training camp started this week and the fight will be on Saturday 17th December 2022.
WHAT NEXT?
If you could sponsor me it would mean so much!!! To do so, I have set up this JustGiving page where you can donate. I know things are tight at the moment and some people have fundraising fatigue, but anything you can spare, even if it’s just £1.00, will go to a worthwhile cause.
