Story
In September 2019 the second ForRangers Ultra took place a partnership between ForRangers, Beyond the Ultimate and Save the Rhino International it was a life-changing and life-affirming experience for all. The race raised over £260,000 and we're going to do it all again! In 2021 two ForRangers Ultra races take place in September in Kenya, the spiritual home of long-distance running. I'm taking part in race B: 22-26 September 2021With a 220-km route that passes through the heart of rhino conservation from Lewa Wildlife Conservancy through the foothills of Mt Kenya to Borana and Ol Jogi Conservancies and the undulating plains of Ol Pejeta Conservancy on the Equator, runners will experience raw nature in the wild. Along the route, they can expect to see not just rhinos, but also elephants, lions, buffalo, zebra, impala and giraffe, and even leopards if they can stay awake long enough.
This race will be be an epic adventure to last a lifetime. The work that is being done to protect the animals for future generations is priceless.
I am running this race for a few reasons. The first is to support the rangers and the animals. The second is to bring more awareness to veteran suicide. On December 2nd 2015 the world lost CPL Richard J Staley Jr. a veteran, Marine, Son and friend. There are no words that can explain the tremendous loss. I carry Richie whenever I go for a run. He has been with me for all of our journeys since July of 2016 when I first starting running to remember.
I still have yet to go visit him. My hope is one day I will be able to muster the strength. I feel that with the crossing of the finish line in Kenya with him watching it will be enough for me to visit back in the U.S.
Just remember there are options and help available 24/7 and you are not alone.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and I hope you will donate to a great cause.
