Story
Helvellyn is roughly 450 million years old and measures 950 m (3,117 ft) tall. Just the name alone sounds scary let alone the shear size of the mountain.
Steeped in history the challenge is to climb to the top on my trusty mountain bike, to take in the views, the challenges in weather conditions then to enjoy the decent.
The ascent of 3117 ft for an old unfit bloke with asthma has been something I have wanted to do for a good while now, even better if it can be done and by raising a few quid on the way for some really great local charities.
I will have one added benefit, the direction and expertise of a very good friend of mine Stewart Sanderson, a very experienced user of the fells in the lakes, a guide, support and generally in charge of laughing at my mistakes.
The target is mid-July this year to make this trip.
Having joined the Leyland Trucks team recently it became very clear how passionate the company and the charity run by the staff are in raising money for good causes.
For this year, St Catherine’s, Rosemire, Christies and Macmillan.
If you can help with any amount please do.
Just as last years event, were asking you to contribute miles via social media in our few weeks of fundraising as the Leyland Trucks team, together with their families and friends, once again lace up or saddle up to collectively cover as many miles as physically and inclusively! as possible.
