Story
Mark Hobson will be cycling to Caen in France from Barnard Castle at the end of May to take his Grandmothers ashes to her husbands war grave.
His grandfather died in WW2 combat on 30th June 1944 when his father was just months old. His grandmother was told by his fellow tank crew that his sacrifice saved their lives.
Marks wife, Leah suggested he made the 400 mile trip by cycling and raise some money for charity. Mark will be paying for the trip himself so all money raised will be going to Combat Stress, a charity for veteran's mental health.
Mark wanted to support a war related charity. Both his father-in-law, Cliff who lives in Barnard Castle and another friend have received help from Combat Stress.
“I have visited the Combat Stress treatment centre many times to help me with PTSD and depression due to military action in the early 70's. They are sincere, compassionate, understanding and professional and have saved the lives of many service personnel who have risked their lives for the safety of others.”
