Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our West Highland Way JustGiving page.
We have recently been touched by MND - Motor Neurone Disease.
Motor Neurone Disease is a neurodegenerative disease. Symptoms can include loss of movement, speech impairment, and eating difficulties. It affects almost 300 people in Scotland and 100,000 worldwide. It is a fatal illness with no known cause or cure. All in all a devestating disease to all those affected.
As we say we have been made aware of MND through the illness of a friend. It's usually the way with such illnesses. Sadly our friend recently passed away and this is our small way of celebrating life and giving what help we can to MND Scotland.
The aims of MND Scotland are wide and varied but here they are in summary:
- - Ensure that the right help, care and support is available at the right time to everyone with MND and their families in Scotland.
- - Inform, educate and support health and social care professionals working with people affected by MND
- - Promote research into all aspects of MND
- - Raise awareness of MND

So we are doing the West Highland Way. 95 miles (and a half) from Milngavie in the North of Glasgow all the way to Fort William. We have planned to do it in 6 days starting on Thursday the 24th of September and finishing on Tuesday the 29th of September.
Our timetable starts off fairly gentle for the first 4 days then goes a bit mad for the last 2 days. Here is how we are doing it:
Day 1 - Milngavie to Drymen - 12 miles. A skoosh!
Day 2 - Drymen to Rowardennan - 15 miles. Bit more of a stretch with Conic Hill in the morning. Probably reward ourselves with a bite in the Oak Tree Inn at Balmaha en route. Oh and a beer or 3 in the hotel at Rowardennan.
Day 3 - Rowardennan to Inverarnan - 14 miles. Quite easy on paper but that bit up the side of Loch Lomond is a bit tricky. A beer or 3 at The Drovers on the Saturday night.
Day 4 - Inverarnan to Tyndrum - 12 miles. Now this should be a skoosh! Thing is we are at the Drovers Inn the night before and we had more beers than planned and we were jigging in the bar. Maybe start about 11am this day. Fish and chips for tea.
Now it goes a bit mad!
Day 5 - Tyndrum to Kings House Hotel - 19 miles. This for me is a stunning section of the walk. I hope the weather is kind to us at Rannoch Moor and as we step in to Glencoe. Anyway birthday celebration drink for Jane in the climbers bar at the Kings House. Ah the high life! Hopefully our many long practice walks over the last 2 months will see us through the mileage today and tomorrow.
Day 6 - King House Hotel to Fort William - 23 miles. Ouch! An early 8am start today. The plan is Kinlochleven by noon with another 4 hour yomp to Fort William after a bit of lunch. A big day but we have done the mileage before so here's hoping. Need the weather to be good for us up the Devils Staircase - but it's not so bad really. Into Fort William, a wee dance round the finish line then off to dinner at Crannog.
Did we say this is meant to be a holiday!
Now, we are not on Facebook and have never uttered a twitter. But I think we might try twitter so that we can post updates of our walk as we go. I will update this page if we do.
Love peace and happiness
