Ironman Germany · 7 August 2011
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On 1st May 2011 my Mum, a fit & healthy 64 year old suffered a significant bleed in the brain. She had to have half of her skull removed to reduce the swelling on her brain and endured a six hour life threatening operation which we were told she would be unlikely to survive. Two months on my Mum is still paralyzed down her left hand side, is been fed through a tube and struggles to communicate with us. This has been heart wrenching for me and my family and is unbearable to see our Mum suffer in this way. A charity that has recently helped us is ' Headway ' and I want to do my best to raise money to support others in the future who suffer from any type of head injury.
As most of you know I’ve completed many marathons and Ironman’s over years however I've never raised money for charity so this year I'm doing Ironman Germany on 7th August for my Mum ! For those of you not familar with Ironman events which are held throughout the world it is a 2.2m Swim, 112m Cycle followed by a swift 26m Run which is no easy day let me tell you !!!
There is a 17 hour cut off time which I aim to be well within but to give me that extra incentive on those last few miles when my feet are bleeding and I'm at the point of collapsing....... please dig deep and support me in raising funds for headway ! When I dig deep on Ironman day through the pain it will be no where near what my Mum has gone through which will drive me onto finnish.
