Story
Encephalitis means inflammation of the brain, a devastating neurological condition. It can strike people of any age, gender or background and it can destroy lives. It can cause personality change, coma and a wide range of other symptoms. In some cases it is fatal; survivors are often left with ongoing problems including memory difficulties or seizures which can be lifelong.
For 10 years I have been involved in caring for patients with encephalitis and performing research to try to improve its diagnosis and treatment. I am proud to be a trustee of the Encephalitis society, who provide invaluable help for those affected, their relatives and loved ones. They provide support, information and practical help to those who desperately need it, throughout their journey to recovery.
I've never done a competitive run before, and I've never run more than 5K before! So I decided to set myself the challenge of running the Great Manchester Run (10K) to raise money for the amazing work of the Encephalitis Society, and to show my support for the incredible work the team have put in through the trials and tribulations of the pandemic, when people have needed their help more than ever. Every pound donated will go towards helping people affected by encephalitis and makes a huge difference.
Thank you.
