Story
I'm running The London Marathon for charity so I can donate specifically to Royal Preston Hospital's Critical Care Unit and their treatment of Sepsis.
In April 2018, whilst on holiday I received a call saying my Dad had been taken ill and to return home immediately. Time was of the essence and it was touch and go if he'd survive the night. At this point the cause of his illness was unknown.
My Dad had been struck down with Sepsis (Septicaemia) and was on life support whilst the medical staff tried to pump antibiotics to treat the infection. Sepsis is essentially blood poisoning and it was attacking all my Dad's organs rapidly.
After a month's stint in Royal Preston Hospital, Dad thankfully pulled through. This wouldn't have been possible had it not been for the expertise and care of the CCU Unit, Sepsis research and a sheer will to live.
I ran a marathon in 2017 and vowed never to do it again, but I really want to raise money for this amazing cause. The Sepsis Trust reports that 52,000 people die of Sepsis in the UK alone (each year) but it is treatable! Survival mainly depends on early detection. I'm going to learn how to run again so we can raise money to help this early detection and give people a chance (like my Dad got).
Any support will be really appreciated as I put my weary bones through 26.2 miles of hell.
Thanks
Mark
