Story

Hello and thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My name is Mark Dack and I am an ex-serving member of the Royal Air Force Regiment. I joined in September 2010 and left in February 2019 serving on 51 Squadron Royal Air Force Regiment and Number 5 Force Protection Wing located at RAF Lossiemouth. During my time on 51, I deployed on 2 operational tours in Afghanistan.

On the 28th of September 2012, whilst out on a vehicle patrol an improvised explosive device detonated after our vehicles wheel ran over it. The charge was big enough to flip an armoured vehicle on to its side. The vehicles crew was made up of Kevin Ogilvie (Driver) Drew McIntosh (Commander) Trevor McIntosh (Passenger) and myself in the top cover position. Kev sustained life changing injuries, suffering 7 broken vertebrae as a result of the blast. The IED effectively detonated under his seat as it was the front, nearside wheel that ran over the pressure plate. Furthermore, Drew was treat for severe burns to his chest as well as broken bones.

Whilst in hospital, Kev and his family received support from the RAF Benevolent Fund throughout his treatment and rehabilitation. The RAF BF is the leading welfare charity supporting current and former members of the RAF, their partners and family. They provide practical, emotional and financial support to help members of the RAF family through tough times, whatever life throws at them.

To mark 10 years since the IED struck our vehicle, and to show my appreciation for everything that the RAF BF do, on August 7th I plan on walking the Cape Wrath Trail via the West Highland Way to raise funds and awareness for the support that the charity provides. The route will take me from Milngavie to Cape Wrath in Scotland through some of the most rugged and wild terrain in the UK, covering approximately 325 miles over 3 weeks.

The trip will be filmed and I will produce a few videos of my time away which will be uploaded to my YouTube Channel ‘Mark Dack’ https://www.youtube.com/c/MarkDack as well as posts on my other social media pages. Thank you so much for viewing my JustGiving page and reading my story as to why I am raising money for the RAF BF. Whatever you can give will go a long way in supporting members of the RAF family.

Cheers and all the very best, Mark.
