Story
We are collecting money in memory of Sean Beauregard, who passed away on the 3rd of April after 20 years of happiness.
Sean was born in 1995 with osteogenisis imperfecta. He was given 3 days to live by his doctors, and he was born with 2 broken femurs, a broken clavicle and multiple breaks around his head which caused swelling. However, he beat this diagnosis and continued to improve daily. But over his first year he still had a further 16 fractures. Until he was five he had, on average, six to ten breaks each year.
At 3 months old he developed hydrocephilis and epilepsy, which caused him to live on Ward 7 in the Sick Kids on and off for months. He required shunts which relieved the pressure on his brain and further allowed him a better quality of life.
At the age of 6 he was strong enough to be put on a treatment which increased his bone density. This was an amazing breakthrough for him, which lessensed his stress and pain and allowed him more free movement. This was also the first time his Mum and Dad could actually hug him. Despite this, however, he would still have anything between two to six breaks every year of his life.
At around the age of five Rachel House, a hospice run by CHAS, visited the family, and when he was well enough to leave the Sick Kids they offered support and respite for him and his family. They continued their help throughout his life, including trips to places like deep sea world and the cinema, use of their jacuzzi, and the invaluable support of the staff. This support extended not just to Sean, but the entire family.
Throughout Seans life he touched many peoples hearts, and we wanted to give back in some way to the two places that helped him survive and thrive over the 20 years he was with us.
On Saturday the 21st of March Sean was taken into the Sick Kids High Dependancy Unit one more time, suffering from the flu. On the 27th of March he celebrated his 20th birthday, but his condition deterioated steadily. He suffered from a collapsed lung which then perforarated. This resulted in Sean being unable to recover. However, he was still bright and active, talking to everyone and playing peek-a-boo. But at 10:58am on the 3rd of April he sadly passed away.
