Story
Doug Hart and I, riding for Ilkley Cycling Club, are aiming to beat the London to Edinburgh (either way) Tandem record, last set in 1988.
Success would involve getting there in less than 18hrs and 40mins, travelling at an average speed of 21mph.
The ride will be officiated by a member of the RRA (Road Records Association), who’ll travel with our support car.
Doug is very much the driving force behind this attempt, physically and metaphorically. He’s an accomplished 12hr and 24hr solo time trial rider and holds the Edinburgh to York RRA Tandem record with fellow ICC member Jake Unsworth. So I was very happy, albeit extremely nervous, to be asked by Doug to help with this one. (Conversely, the fact that young Jake turned down this ride should tell me all I need to know!)
This will hurt. So I’m unashamedly asking for sponsorship.
Half of the money raised will go to Shelter From The Storm, https://sfts.org.uk/ a brilliant organisation based in Archway, near Hammerson’s King’s Cross HQ. I’ve been involved with SFTS for a few years now and never cease to be amazed by the energy and selfless drive of the founder and CEO, Sheila Scott and the SFTS team. So I’d be thrilled to raise money to help Sheila and her team in their new base.
LandAid is a wonderful organisation who do incredible work for youth homelessness throughout the UK. The impact of Covid will significantly increase the pressure on young people and so support is needed now, more than ever.
Thank you for helping with this whole, slightly mad thing. I am very grateful.
