Rock For Alzheimer's LOCKDOWN · 18 April 2020

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Many of you will know that Arms of Venus de Milo have performed in each of the last eight years at Rock for Alzheimer's, raising over £46,000 for the charity.  Ian (our singer) and I have each lost both of our parents and so the cause remains close to our hearts and of the band.

The Covid virus has impacted heavily on fundraising for many charities, with events being cancelled and corporate funding being redirected to essential costs.  Allied to this the public are understandably very supportive in particular of those NHS targeted charities.  However the work of Alzheimer's Society remains fundamental to supporting Social Care and they have been vocal in lobbying the Government to address e.g. the shortcomings in provision of testing and PPE to care homes.  It is also essential that research and direct support through specialist advice lines (Dementia Connect) and other services remain funded in the coming months.  For this reason we are asking for your support in raising further neccesary funds to allow this extremely valuable work to continue.

In return we will post as many video performances as we can to our Facebook page in the coming few lockdown weeks.  These will primarily be solo performances, but if we can get our heads round the technology we will be more adventurous.

Thank you for reading this and we are grateful for your further support through this fundraising effort; we know money is tight just now.

Many thanks and stay safe  - Bingy
