Story
Just like most of you reading this, I didn't think it would happen to me. So when I found a lump I was told statistically the odds were in my favour and it would be nothing. Unfortunately for me It wasn't and in February this year I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had the devastating news that I had to go through a mastectomy and reconstruction and as of today my journey is not quite complete. Yes I am cancer free but the physical effects are ongoing with hormone treatment I will be on for the next 10 years. From a medical point of view I know I've been taken care of, been given the best treatment and care..but emotionally once you get given the diagnosis your life from that moment completely changes. You don't know how you'll ever feel 'normal' again.
One massive turning point for me to to deal with these emotions was the amazing support I got from Penny Brohn. With their Whole body approach they get you to re-establish a new you, someone that lives beyond cancer. Yes I have been diagnosed with cancer but i won't let that define me , I will make sure it makes me stronger than before.
Thank you so much Penny Brohn, and I hope by walking this Stomp with some super supportive friends of mine and my unbelievably amazing mum, I will be able to raise some funds to enable Penny Brohn to keep helping many people like myself in the future. Marisa xxx
