Story

I'm walking 50km over the month of May to support research to save babies' lives and ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times.

Flo and I were expecting to make a pregnancy announcement, but instead found out our baby Avery had two rare conditions: Exomphalos major ( liver and intenstines outside of the abdominal wall cavity) and Megacystis (enlargement and obstruction of the bladder). Due to the size of the exomphalos, Avery was also developing severe kyphoscoliosis in the spine.

We were referred immediately to the fetal medicine specialist unit for next steps and investigations. Little did I know, the next 3 weeks would be the most difficult and challenging of our lives. I spent every minute of the day and night researching case studies, forums, and medical journals about these conditions trying to find any solution for our Avery, however there was nothing we could do except wait to see how the abnormalities would progress in the coming weeks.

Sadly this past week, we lost our baby Avery and he has joined baby heaven. The cause of these conditions is still unknown,  when a genetic issue is ruled out but with Avery’s help, fetal medicine can develop and potentially help future babies.

It really means so much to me that you've visited my fundraising page. I'm so grateful for anything you're able to donate. Thanks in advance!
