First organised by Hayes Davidson in 2018 in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA), the yearly HD5K charity run is now also honouring the memory of Alan Davidson who founded Hayes Davidson and who was diagnosed with MND in 2012.
Alan died aged 58 in August 2018 and was present at the inaugural run in Hyde Park in May 2018.
Motor neurone disease describes a group of diseases that affect the nerves in the brain and spinal cord that tell your muscles what to do. With MND, messages from these nerves gradually stop reaching the muscles, leading them to weaken, stiffen and waste. It is a cruel and terminal illness that decimates the mobility, communication and respiratory functions, leaving families and loved ones helpless in its wake.
Thank you for supporting me with this worthy and important cause.
