Story
Hello and thanks so much for reading this. Earlier this year I ran the Brighton Marathon to raise money for the Martlets Hospice in memory of my friend's husband Andy Ogilvie. Thanks to all the generous support, we raised over £1,500 which was fantastic!
I have now been given the opportunity to run the London Marathon on the 2nd October 2022 for the Martlets and so here I am again, asking for your support for this incredible organisation.
Martlets is a local charity that provides terminally ill people with the very best care and support. They supported my friend Sally and gave her husband Andy the most excellent end of life care.
Andy first received his lung cancer diagnoses in April 2019. Over the following two years he went through numerous treatments and surgeries. He was admitted to the Martlets Hospice on 19th September 2021. Andy was hugely grateful for all the care he received and thanked the staff, who went out of their way to be compassionate, at every opportunity.
The original plan was for him to have a couple of weeks of care, but unfortunately, his condition deteriorated, and he sadly passed away on 19th October 2021, at just 45 years old.
Sally and Andy have two wonderful daughters; Eleanor (7) and Alexandra (4) and I am running the marathon in honour and in memory of their Daddy.
The Martlets Hospice provide an exceptional level of care for their patients and the families involved. If you can sponsor my run with a donation to this important charity, I can assure you that every penny will be used to provide dignity, care and support for those in need.
Every penny raised will help them continue to provide vital hospice care, ensuring that no family in Brighton, Hove and the surrounding areas has to face a terminal illness alone. The Martlets are only able to provide free life-changing hospice care thanks to the generosity and hard work of their supporters.
- £700 could pay for an IPU (In Patient Unit) bed for a day
- £1,250 could fund 13 hospice at home visits, so patients can receive expert care in the comfort of their own home
- £3,170 could pay for an IPU (In Patient Unit) specialist mattress
Thank you for reading this.
