Story

Marian "Bob" Wojcicki, our grandfather, passed away late 2020. He was a Polish migrant that settled here after WW2, a war that left him the sole survivor of his family.

He was only a child when he and his family were sent to work camps . Eventually he was called to join the army in his early teens when those camps were liberated.

He didn't have the opportunity to receive an education but that never stopped him. He worked three jobs at a time and taught himself English as well as numerous other skills.

But he always reiterated the value of education and encouraged us as his grandchildren to study hard. Seeing his face when we attended prom, graduated or got a new job, made all of the hard work worth it.

Our Grandad lived through a global crisis and never had access to proper education. In his memory, we want to raise £300 for Luton Learning Link, a local organisation that are working tirelessly during this global crisis to ensure that vulnerable children in Luton have access to the resources and equipment they need to learn.

Please give generously and share.

For more information on Luton Learning Link's work read below:

In Luton 46% of young people live in poverty. Poverty means young people do not have all the equipment they need for learning from home, including a digital device and WiFi. The government scheme to provide digital access will only supply devices to Year 10 students (14 15 year olds) who are entitled to a free school meal. There is no provision for students in other year groups, or for young people who live in poverty but do not get a free school meal. Without a device to work on at home, young people fall behind in their studies and miss out on developing key skills when compared to their peers. This causes young people to worry because they know that they do not have what they need to fully participate in their studies, leaving them to feel more uncertain than ever about their future. One Luton High School student told us " I dont have a lap top and have to borrow my cousins one when she isnt using it. I get frustrated because I am falling behind with my work."
