Marianne's Haircut

Marianne Doherty is raising money for Little Princess Trust

Marianne's Haircut · 2 October 2021

The Little Princess Trust provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or to other conditions. The charity is also one of the largest funders of childhood cancer research in the UK.

Story

In October 2016 I got my hair cut short in preparation for chemotherapy. I was recovering from my first cancer related operation, where they discovered my breast cancer was invasive and had spread to my lymph nodes.  During chemo I lost all my hair.

5 years later I'm enormously grateful that I'm still here and that my hair grew back (apart from a pretty half-hearted effort from the eyebrows).

So I'm marking the occasion by cutting it all off again and donating my hair to the Little Princess Trust.

As treatment has also given me chronic fatigue I'm never going to raise money by running a marathon or climbing a mountain. So instead I'm asking you to sponsor me for taking 5 years to get to the hairdresser.

It costs The Little Princess Trust £550 to provide one wig for a child and they currently supply over 100 wigs every month. So I'm hoping all my wonderful, generous friends can help me to meet the costs of making one wig.

Thanks for all your support!
