Story
Maria’s husband Terry was diagnosed with CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease) in 2006 his long term prognosis would require the likelihood of kidney dialysis and the need of a kidney transplant. His journey commenced with regular outpatients’ appointments to Gloucester Royal Hospital with careful monitoring to try to control and prolong the inevitable. Terry was also later referred to Southmead Hospital to be placed onto the kidney transplant waiting list.
To an end when his kidneys were at a Stage 5 End Stage, he had no choice but to start kidney dialysis, Terry went onto dialysis in October ’16 at the Cotswold Unit. This was a vital part of Terry’s treatment and he attended the unit three times a week for 15 months, until he received that long-awaited telephone call from Southmead Hospital with an offer of a kidney. The kidney was a good match and the operation went well; the family have just celebrated a two year anniversary.
At the beginning of the year Maria along with her work colleagues were set a challenge by their employer to organise a fundraising event of their choice. The Newent office have set themselves a goal to complete the Warrior 10k Mud Run on Saturday 18th July (new date), with proceeds going to the Dialysis Unit via the Cheltenham & Gloucester Hospital Charity.
Please support Maria, Adam, Lisa, Leann and Stacey with their up and coming challenge!!

The law around organ donation is changing in England. From Spring 2020, all adults will be considered for an organ donor when they die unless they have recorded a decision not to donate or are in one the excluded groups. This is commonly referred to as an ‘opt out’ system.
