Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
2015 is my year, I turned 50 (eek) in February, and I am running Edinburgh Marathon in May, we did the Crossmichael Dip on New Years Day(brr) and squealed our way down Laggan Zip Wire on my birthday then the marathon....and raise money to help support families, and of course fund research for the cure.
My granny had Alzheimers, it was heartbreaking for her and all our family, some days she knew us and it was a sparkle of how she was, other days we were the devil incarnate and those days were so hard. We were luckier than some as she lived at home with us until she died, hard work for everyone, she had rheumatoid arthritis too, at least it meant she couldn't move too quick and be out of the house and off down the road. I remember as a surly teenager being 'oh gran you've asked me that already' and now looking back thinking how sad it must've made her feel to think she didn't even realise she was doing it. To raise money so families could have the ongoing support for assistance, equipment and people to talk to would be such a privilege.
I have also been lucky enough to work for a wee while in a local specialist nursing home, and see how so well looked after the 'dudes' were, no tuts, just love and support for both the 'dudes' and their families. To raise money so some familes felt able to have their loved ones at home for longer, or for the homes to be able to offer extra services through Alzheimer Scotland would be brilliant.
