Story
My husband was diagnosed with colorectal cancer two years ago when he was 60 years old. Following further investigations he was also diagnosed with an unrelated tumour on his kidney. He had a long operation to remove the tumour in his colon and remove his kidney. He was left with an ileostomy stoma. A few days later the anastomosis (join in the bowel) broke down and he needed a further operation to repair the bowel which left him with a second stoma. He has since developed a condition called chronic pelvic sepsis and two abdominal hernias. Despite these setbacks he has made a good recovery and has gone back to work for a few hours a week at Beamish Open Air museum where he is a welcomer.
I will be doing the run with other family members, some of whom are raising funds for another charity in memory of our great nephew James who died in November after battling against a bone cancer. James would have been proud of us all!
