Reading Half Marathon 2018 · 18 March 2018 ·
You know you want to help me raise money for this exciting project!
As one of the Trustees, I thought I should do something to help raise money for the Headley Down Nature Reserve. So I have decided to run the Reading Half Marathon.
And in the true spirit of all things wildlife and nature .... if you help me get to £500 ... I have pledged to run it dressed as a Bumblebee!
Cairon, friend, running buddy and local business man has valiantly volunteered to keep me company as my pacer. Not wishing to be upstaged by me, he has agreed that if you get me over the £500 mark he will run dressed as my flower! (Bless!)
So if you want to see us looking all cute/ridiculous ... you know what to do! GIVE GIVE GIVE!
A little bit about the Trust:
Headley Down Nature Reserve Trust, formed in 2016 by a small group of local residents, is adjacent to the Heatherlands Estate playing fields and backs onto the Land of Nod. It's about 2.5 acres of council land previously abandoned to invasive undergrowth and flytippers. The Trust have leased the land and are transforming it into a haven for native wild flora and fauna for everyone to access and enjoy.
So far the Trustees (all giving their time and skills for free), with help from volunteers and contractors, have created a network of pathways to enable access for all; planted up wildflowers, cleared invasive species, built bird and bat boxes which have been dotted around the site, cleared an area for a kids learning zone, installed a bench and have plans well under way for a History zone (interesting WWII legacy). But there is so much more that they want to do to turn this into a truly magical wildlife wonderland. Find out more on the website:
