Virtual Race to Qatar and Back · 1 October 2022 to 31 October 2022 ·
I think its fair to say that most people I know understand that I'm not a bad runner and I'm somewhat mad / a glutton for punishments as well. Some but not all also know that I have a back disease (Ankylosing Spondylitis). So most of my running is done in pain, especially the longer the distance is.
Back in 2013 I finished the last of 3 London Marathons and said I would never run a marathon again, basically due to it hurting far too much and I didn't want to go through it ever again, plus it took bloody ages to complete.
Last year, during Race to Nicaragua and raising money for Springboard, I ran 705KM in the month of May - the equivalent of running a little more than a Half Marathon each day.
Whilst I don't intend to run as far this time round for this years Race to Qatar and back throughout the whole of October - I am taking on a MASSIVE CHALLENGE that is mentally and physically scaring the bejesus out of me.
On the 16th October I will tackling a 50k Ultra Marathon - Run to the Sea Bournemouth, remember I said that I wouldn't ever do a marathon ever again - well I'm going further and that means its going to hurt even more. Well hopefully not too much as for the last 3-4 months I have been training towards this thanks to the help of a good friend and coach - who is helping me work hard and much more efficiently so to get to the end of this race.
I did it as well!! and managed to finish 16th out of 320 crazy people and clocked a bloody surprising 4hrs 20 mins. only 10 minutes slower that my fastest marathon time........
Of course this is one part of clocking up the miles for the whole month and being part of the Hospitality Consultants team who have pledged to raise £3,000 for The Springboard Charity.
Collectively, we'll be travelling the distance of 6,462 miles in October!
