Story
Update -
Solly and I have escaped to Norfolk as we were both suffering from grotty hay fever as we slugged around Ally Pally and various other parks. We aim to set off at 6am and walk to Felbrigg Hall, on to Cromer for a stroll along the sea front to a favourite fossiling beach at West Runton, returning via several loops of gorgeous Norfolk countryside. You may think Norfolk is flat, and yes of course it is compared to Scotland and Cumbria and even Devon, but there are still a few hills to keep us entertained. We hope t finish at about 6.30pm. This will be the longest walk I have ever taken on in one day. My huge thanks to all you wonderfully generous donors. Here is to it.
On 11 July this year my son Solly (aged 14) and I (a little bit older than Solly…) will be heading out early in the morning to walk 36 miles in a big 360 circle to raise money for the work the Roundhouse does with young people. About 40 other people will be doing this at the same time but in their local neighbourhoods, from London to Scotland, USA to Chile...
And amazing news just in... one of our fabulous Roundhouse supporters has just offered a £10k challenge fund for me to complete the 36 mile walk. This means that for every pound you donate he will match with another pound.
In July last year I completed, with a brilliant team of 16 others, the 3 Peaks Challenge in less than 24 hours to raise money for the Roundhouse and this year we hoped to do the Lyke Wake Walk across the Yorkshire Moors. Due to Covid 19 we had to change our plans and instead we decided to walk Round the Houses. The need this year is even greater. With the Roundhouse doors closed to the public our income is down 70% and our work with young people has had to be slimmed down and moved online.
Over the course of last year we worked with 7,500 young people aged 11 to 30 from all over London, with nearly 60% coming from areas of multiple deprivation. They have engaged in making music, radio, podcasting, theatre, circus, filming, spoken word, leadership and entrepreneurial projects. At the Roundhouse young people learn skills, gain experience, develop their confidence and self-esteem and we support them in creating their pathways in to work. As I say the need has never been greater since the impact of Covid 19.
Please help me reach my target and in doing so help young people, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve their potential.
Solly loves theatre, music and photography and will be our official photographer for our walk - we will be posting images on Twitter and Instagram along the way.
Every penny donated will make a difference. Huge thanks
