London Marathon 2022 · 2 October 2022 ·
I am running the 2022 London Marathon to represent and support all the people affected by a genetic condition.
There are around 6,000 genetic conditions. It is estimated that one in 25 children is affected by a genetic condition. 30,000 babies and children
are newly diagnosed in the UK each year, not solely inherited by their parents.
About 2 years ago, we found out that our little daughter Maya had a genetic abnormality, more specifically a duplication of a portion of the chromosome 12. The geneticists could not find a match in the global genetic database and they advised that, based on similar cases, the impact on her life could be mild.
Although there is a lot uncertainty, after all we have been lucky as Maya is growing fine. I am aware that for many kids and their families is way more complicated. For this reason, it is extremely important to support everyone whose life is affected by a genetic disorder.
Gene People’s mission is to be the leading source of information and support for both those affected by a genetic condition, and the charities and patient groups that support them, by bringing together everyone’s combined experience in a place it can be shared.
When I started running 3 years ago, I wanted just to get fit. Now, every step I take is a message for myself and my daughter that, if you don’t give up and if you fight against difficulties, anything is possible. I want to carry this message for the 42.195 KM of the London Marathon.
