Story
On the 10th and 11th September Natalie, Laura, Martin, William and I are taking on the huge task - the National Three Peaks Challenge!
We will be climbing the three highest peaks of Scotland, England and Wales in a gruelling 24-hour period to raise money for a charity very close to our hearts – the Rowans Hospice.
The total walking distance is 22 miles (37km), the ascent is 3064 metres (10,052ft) and the total driving distance is 462 miles.
We’ll be supported by my brilliant dad, Alan, who will be doing the majority of the driving so we can get a small amount of rest in between each climb.
This is not an easy challenge. We will be navigating, climbing and descending Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon – some of which will be during dark or twilight hours on tricky, uneven ground.
Its not just walking up some hills and mountains. We need to carefully think about the equipment we take, the food and drink we consume, when we consume it, the clothes we wear/carry – and of course the training in the lead up to it.
Only 40-50% of people who take on the challenge achieve it within 24 hours. It really is a undertaking!
As I mentioned, Rowans Hospice is a place very close to our hearts. They provided an amazing level of care to mum and supported the family during the most difficult of times.
Its an exceptional place that provides specialist care, and often end of life care to those who need it. Having had first hand experience I can say the level of support they provide to individuals and their families is beyond anything you can imagine.
During these challenging times, the Rowans Hospice, like many others saw their income hugely affected due to the pandemic preventing many fundraising events being cancelled.
It costs a whopping £7.2 million pounds each year to provide this outstanding care. Only 10% of that comes from NHS Funding. Delivering the VITAL care they do would be impossible without the fundraising and donations from people like me and you - so please support this amazing place by donating whatever you can - and help us finish the course with smiles on our faces knowing that we’ve done something worthwhile, not just for someone love and care about, but for many others too.
