Story
Back in March 2021 after having some new symptoms, dad (Dave Murphy) took himself to the doctors for a check up and after numerous tests was diagnosed with prostate cancer. This was a big shock to us all as many know dad was a very healthy 60 year old who works every minute possible. Thanks to the amazing work of the NHS, dad had surgery to remove his prostate and thankfully removed the cancer from his body. The surgery did unfortunately bring other complications due to blood clots which will mean he is now on multiple tablets for life, as well as being tested every 3-6 months to check for cancer too. Dad dealt with it all like an absolute trooper and was back in the digger in no time, we couldn’t have been more proud of him.
After dads diagnoses, Uncle Tim (Tim Murphy) was realising he had a lot of the symptoms also and dad spoke to him to go and get checked, as well as others going to get tested too. Tim was unfortunately then also diagnosed with prostate cancer. After having numerous tests, Tim decided to go for the option of Brachytherapy treatment which is a form of radiation. He continues to be checked every few months. Again, Tim has taken all of this in his stride and is back enjoying walks in the woods with Murphy the dog.
1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer in the UK. That's thousands of dads, grandads, brothers, uncles, sons and mates. But it doesn't have to be this way. We’re taking part in March for Men to help beat prostate cancer and raise awareness. Your donation will fund lifesaving research into better tests and treatments to help the next generation of men.
