Story
We’ve chosen to fundraise for Bliss because we want to make a real difference to the 95,000 babies born premature or sick every year, just like our daughter Molly was.
Molly was born at 32+2 weeks by C-section. My liver had started to fail and she was breech. Weighing a grand total of 3lbs 1oz (or a bag and half of sugar, as my hubby said in theatre). She was taken straight to SCBU, while I was taken to intensive care. Daddy went with Molly, and the specialist team stabilised her and took a polaroid picture for Daddy to bring to me, that photo became my only connection for the next 24 hours, until I was well enough to see her. Between me recovering and the various medical hurdles that Molly took on and overcame throughout the following 5 weeks (not feeding, weight loss, irregular heartbeat, slow heartbeat, jaundice, reflux...etc), I came to depend on the team, support staff and literature to help me understand what I needed to do to understand what was happening and how to step up and be a mum. I was constantly at war with myself.... I didn't feel at that instant she was my baby, my milk didn't come in and I felt I wasn't needed, as the specialist team would make her better, not me! It took the dedication of an amazing team of people to go beyond making Molly better, they helped me and my husband through every step, whether it was forwards or backwards!!!
Molly was still in SCBU on my first mothers day. When we got there the team had made gifts for all mums from each baby in the unit.....and it's those moments, those milestones that make supporting this charity worth it!!!! Molly is now 11 years old and can't wait to take part in the little lights walk, to help raise money for a charity that helped us BEYOND WORDS as a family.
Every donation that’s made to this page brings Bliss closer to ensuring that every baby born premature or sick in the UK has the best chance of survival and quality of life. Bliss does that by supporting parents to care for their babies, campaigning for better neonatal care and enabling life-changing research.
