Story
A good friend of mine, Brenda Ross has orgainised a Ball to take place on the 21st June 2013 to raise funds for CHAS. I have enrolled in the Celtman, an extreme Scottish Triathlon, to help Brenda raise funds.
Brenda herself is an inspiration. She has Muscular Dystrophy and is wheelchair bound. She has limited movement and severe breathing difficulties. Notwithstanding her significant disability she lives life to the full aided by her team of 9 carers. She works at Angus College and was awarded an MBE in 2007 for services to further education.
Brenda has previously organised 3 charity Balls in aid of CHAS and has raised over £30,000. She is assisted by her "Ball Babes" Rona Valentine, Kay Gilmour, Lisa Simpson, Angela Gatford, Angela Morrison and Lesley Macdonald. Her aim is to try and raise £50,000 for CHAS. I have enrolled in the Celtman to help her raise funds for her cause. If you are interested you can find out more about the Celtman at www.cxtri.com
The Celtman takes place on the 6th July 2013 and is centred around the mountains of Torridon, in Wester Ross, Scotland. The event starts at 5am with a 3.8k swim across Loch Shieldaig, followed by a 202k cycle around Wester Ross, and finishes with a 42k run over 2 munros - Ruadh-stac Mor ("Big Red Stack") and Spidean Coire nan Clach ("Peak of the Corrie of Stones"). The route over the munros is pretty hazardous and the race rules require you to have a support runner accompany you on that part of the route. Jamie Stark has kindly agreed to be my support runner.
CHAS is a charity that provides the only hospice services in Scotland for children and young people with life-shortening conditions. CHAS offers care in two children's hospices - Rachel House in Kinross and Robin House in Balloch. If you are interested in finding out more about CHAS please visit their website on www.chas.org.uk.
