Story
We are "Run for Sophie" - a fundraiser in honour of Sophie Porkorny, who passed away aged 3 years old after developing a rare form of heart disease.
The "Runners for Sophie" you will be backing are as follows:
Michael Jovic / William & Alex Williams / Lilian Williams / / Gurmeet & Punya Sahni / Hugo Clarke / Kirsty Waterworth / Laura & Naomi / Leslie Farago / Chris Holmes / Paul Baile / Tania Nadarajah.....
After collapsing unexpectedly, Sophie spent a short time in a local hospital before being moved to the Brompton where she went into a coma and was placed on ECMO life support. Not long after this, she was moved to Great Ormond Street Hospital and placed on the heart transplant list. Sadly Sophie suffered a bleed to her brain and didn't live long enough to receive her new heart. She did however save the lives of two grown men after becoming an organ donor and giving them her kidneys.
So many incredible doctors, medical institutions and charities rallied on behalf of this little 3 year old and her parents when it truly mattered. Sadly life was cruel, but the efforts made by these institutions and individuals were truly humbling and they deserve our support.
We have chosen to support The Sick Children's Trust, which is little known of and subsequently less well funded. The charity believes in keeping families together which can significantly improve the recovery of seriously ill children.
They provide free, high-quality accommodation, as well as emotional and practical support to families with sick children in hospital in the UK. We hope that you should never have to call on them to help you, but we are calling on you to support them now.
Please take 5 minutes and donate anything you can - every penny/pound really makes the difference.
We will be running the Adidas City run Fulham 10k on 18th November in honour of Sophie. Should you wish to join us please contact one of the team above.
