Out of the blue in August 2021, My mate of 40 + Years daughter, Ella caught an ecoli infection.
They will never know how she caught it, it quickly developed into a serious condition called HUS ( Haemolytic Uraemic Syndrome ) which destroyed her red blood cells and reduced her kidneys functioning to less than 5%.
There was a 15 year old who should have been enjoying her summer job and at the beach with friends but instead it was a blue-light dash with three paramedics and a nurse to Bristol Children's Hospital to receive life saving surgery.
The doctors at Treliske told them without medical care she wouldn’t have survived. Without a doubt it must of been the scariest time of there lives, As a father I could not imagine.
After receiving platelets, bags of blood, an extended stay in hospital and at least five lots of dialysis it was time for Ella to return home to Marazion.
Stacey and Michael went to Marks and Spencer’s and bought the usual box of chocolates for the amazing selfless medical team at Bristol but to them it felt inadequate and not enough.
As Michael walked down the stairs he saw the poster for Wallace and Gromits Grand appeal bike ride from London to Paris on 8th-12th June 22, to raise much needed funds for Bristol Children’s Hospital.
He signed up immediately and then decided to rope me into doing it as well, Well come on, How could I refuse, I have been at the receiving end of our marvelous NHS's lifesaving care several times with my cancer journey so what an awesome way to give something back for the both of us.
I know times are hard and there are so many charity links being fired around but if I could ask that you pop £1 in the pot or give the Just giving page a share that would mean so much to Myself, Michael, Stacey and Little Ella😀
Feel free to share far and wide with family and friends as every penny counts and like both sets of families you never know when you need the NHS.
