Story
Me - I used to be super fit, ran marathons for charity and did not take my health too seriously. Even though I have had hemiplegic migraines since I was around 11, it was only training for the first marathon that was difficult. After that, I enjoyed them and the fundraising I did as a charity marathon runner. I did not have migraines at all for several years as a result.
Over a decade ago I collapsed on a 20 mile training run, later that day I could not get up from the floor and within days I was in hospital. There have been countless tests and I still have them (and something called breathing physiotherapy) the main issue is my lungs (complex lung infection) which can trigger the migraines, but another trigger is people being aggressive when my brain cannot rationalise why. Either of these can trigger a migraine and make me collapse, and / or cause temporary paralysis (as well as the other joyous symptoms).
However, even when I sulk because I am not the same person that I was before, the one thing I have realised from my numerous hospital visits is how lucky I am. My health and life could be a lot worse, I could have lost a lot more than I did.
And so people, I thought I’d commit to trying to run a marathon for a charity that help neurological conditions, a worthy cause….
Neurological conditions include migraine, Parkinson’s, epilepsy, stroke, multiple sclerosis, and dementia.
