This year marks the inaugural Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon, inspired by the efforts of Kevin Sinfield and his extraordinary efforts for Leeds Rhino teammate Rob.
MND is a fatal, rapidly progressing disease that affects the brain and spinal cord. MND kills a third of people within a year and more than half within two years of diagnosis. It affects people from all backgrounds, and a person’s lifetime risk of developing MND is around 1 in 300. Today six people will be diagnosed and six will die from MND. There is no cure.
Bob O’Keefe was diagnosed with MND in 2018 and passed away in early 2022. He was a beloved relative, friend, and colleague to so many. To me, he was an inspirational father, and we all miss him every single day.
In May, Toby, Alfie, Adam, Morgan, Luke, George, Ben, Jack, Sam and Will Finch, will be running for Bob and in support of the MND Association. MNDA is a national charity that cares for people with MND, as well as fund and promote research in the pursuit of a cure for this disease.
The marathon poses for a challenging day out, but nothing compared to the challenges that those living with MND face every day.
