Story
Grassroots Aid Groups in Calais providing emergency food, clothing and information are consistently under financial strain.
Over 2,000 displaced people are stranded in Northern France, 200 of whom are unaccompanied children. With little to no basic food or protection, it's up to all of us to help.
The Calais Appeal joins organisations Calais Food Collective, Collective Aid, Refugee Women's Centre, Refugee Info Bus, Project Play, Calais WoodYard, and the Human Rights' Observers, with all funds raised being split between the first five listed. From May on, the number of displaced people sleeping rough in Northern France is likely to double. Without sustainable funding during summer, their efforts to support people on the move will become dangerously restricted.
The organisations which form a part of Calais Appeal are determined to continue their work on the ground in order to support people that rely on their services to meet their basic needs. This includes food autonomy, access to information, a tent to sleep in and dry clothes. On a total combined budget of less than £50,000 a month and with very tight margins, they help hundreds of displaced people daily. The negative effects derived from the pandemic are still affecting their services, with recent inflation making their operations yet more expensive. These groups and their volunteers care deeply about the communities they work with, providing vital services, so we hope you will consider contributing to their project costs through our fundraiser. This will allow these excellent organisations to continue delivering for the people of Calais and the wider Northern France area.
