l have lived in Brighton on and off for about 7 years, but I originally come from North Yorkshire.   I signed up for the Brighton marathon nearly a year ago and decided I wanted to raise money for a local charity.  There are so many worthy causes out there but I wanted to do something for my own community.  I came across the work that emmaus do and decided I really wanted to run for them.  People sometimes loose their way in life, sometimes things are tough and unless they have a strong support network it's easy to see how life may feel like it's beaten you and people loose hope.  I wanted, in my own way, to try and raise the profile of emmaus who I saw taking a much more holistic approach to helping people. 
Having been to see the people at the Portslade community, I think the work they do is fantastic and I hope to raise as much as I can!
