Story
** Updated to run in April 2023, after the pandemic pushed it back from 2020..
In April 2023 I will be completing one of my most daunting challenges yet – The London Marathon. I will be running for St John Ambulance and for those who know me, you’ll know that I've never ran this far before so I am really testing myself!
This is one charity that is really under-funded, especially based on the support they give to individuals and communities all over the UK. I'm sure most of you have seen the vital support they provide at various events, helping people when they need it most, with all operations funded by people like you.
They could do with an equal amount of support in return – a small donation goes a long way for St John’s Ambulance, even as little as £7 a day can run an ambulance for a day for them.
I hope that a small effort from everyone to kindly help raise funds with me will make a big difference for hundreds, even thousands of lives.
I have been set a target of raising £2000, but I think with a team effort we could beat this and help St Johns Ambulance grow even more.
To put into perspective what this could mean to the charity and all its volunteers:
Raise £80: this could cover the operational costs of a first aid response unit for one hour
Raise £120: this could pay for a St John Ambulance trainer to teach first aid to a class of 32 children
Raise £150: this could pay for a training mannequin, used to teach resuscitation (CPR)
Raise £300: this could pay for a full day’s training for a group of 12
Raise £600: this could train one of our first aid trainers to teach others lifesaving skills
Raise £1,000: this could pay for an automated external defibrillator (AED), which can prove vital to the resuscitation process following a cardiac arrest
I have covered all marathon costs myself so ALL the money that you kindly donate will go to St John Ambulance. A big thank you and I really appreciate all of your amazing support.
