Story

Hi everyone! Welcome to my Marathon Charity donation page. I am running the London Marathon for Cats Protection in honour of my cat Milson who we lost in 2022. She was a rescue & was given back 3 times by other families before finding her forever home with us. Please take the time to read her story & donate whatever you can. Thank you so much xxx

No one quite tells you the pain of losing a pet.

You have your best friend, confidant, member of the family following you around, giving you cuddles, make you feel so truly loved every minute of every day… and then suddenly they’re gone.

In April 2020 I lost my best friend Twirly. He was a beautiful male tabby who I loved and adored for 19 years. I paid £5 for him when I was 7 years old & we were inseparable right up until his death (I was 26). He’d follow me to my friends houses, sleep on the end of my bed, comforted me through heartbreak, job changes & house moves and I couldn’t imagine a life without him. When he passed, I was heartbroken and I never thought I’d be able to fill that hole that he’d left behind.

A year later in 2021 my family and I rescued Milson. She was a 6 year old British Short Hair and tbh, she didn’t love us to start. She came into our home (after being returned 3 times by other families) an aggressive, attacking little thing who clearly didn’t want to make friends. I decided there and then that I would make it my mission to make Milson my best friend, just like Twirly.

In the beginning she would hiss, scratch and bite us. One time she even trapped me in my dads room and when I tried to open the door she’s make some horrific noise and come for me. She was pretty much unapproachable and life with Milson in the beginning was more about dodging her and making sure not to piss her off just so you didn't get scratched!

As the months went on I kept trying to be her friend. Allowing her to come to me when she wanted, let her sleep on the end of my bed (risky but I'm a cat person so would do anything to make her feel comfortable in our home) and give her little strokes whenever I passed her. After a while, she would come up to me purring, she’d let me stroke her, she even let me in and out of my room (😅) and she was beginning to let me pick her up (a huge NO NO in the beginning). We were well on our way to being besties.

Unfortunately, Milson's story with us is a short one. She was with us for a year before catching what we are assuming was an infection and had to be put down on the operating table.

Losing Milson was beyond heart breaking because we tried everything to save her. Still to this day we don't know EXACTLY what happened to her to have her deteriorate so fast... Even the vets couldn't figure it out.

Milson's story fills me with such upset for her and her short little life.

The fact that she was given back 3 times by other families before finding her forever home (with us) I will never understand.

The fact that she was finally coming around to us as a family, she wasn't attacking us anymore and was relaxing into life as a Morrison.

The fact that she never got to experience and live a life with a family who well and truly wanted her forever.

However, Milson did get a year full of love and kindness with us as a Morrison and she definitely died a truly adored, happy kitty.

Thanks to charities like Cats Protection, Milson might not have had anywhere to go when she was given back and as we hear more and more about families no longer being able to afford their pets, charities like Cats Protection are needed now more than ever.

Thank you taking the time to read our story and we are truly grateful for your donation, no matter how big or small x

Ps. The photos are all of Milson, wasn’t she just stunning!!
