Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My best friend Lance Corporal Alec Waters was tragically injured on 29th November 2012 in Afghanistan serving with The Royal Dragoon Guards.
To show my support I have organised a sponsored cycle on an exercise bike. It will take place from 0900-1700hrs Sat 13th April 2013 at Tesco, Chesterfield Road, Mansfield. We will be having an exercise bike in the foyer of the store and keep the pedals in motion for 8hrs. I am doing this in conjunction with Police Officers and Pcso's from Mansfield Woodhouse Police Station and friends and family of Alec.
At 18 years old Alec joined the army as a vehicle mechanic in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers based at Catterick Garrison.
Since his return to the UK he has been receiving treatment at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham and has received support from a huge variety of sources.
When I decided to do this fund raiser to show my support to Alec and he asked that the proceeds be given to SSAFA and particularly 'The Norton House Project'.
The Norton House project offers injured servicemen and women a place to relax with their friends and family whilst they are receiving treatment in Birmingham. A chance to get away from the hospital and to spend some quality time with loved ones.
An example of the outstanding support given to Alec and his family is that on Christmas Day and Boxing Day they were given full use of the house to be able to celebrate christmas together as a family despite the life changing accident just a month earlier which made that seem impossible.
This is clearly a worthwhile cause, the fundraising is in Alec's name, he is the most down to earth, caring and content person I know. He never moans or complains and despite suffering these life changing injuries he maintains the same positive outlook on life.
Alec is the perfect friend, son, brother and husband. Please dig deep and support this worthwhile cause that has done so much for my best friend.
