Story
Join us on our ‘Virtual’ Expedition to Santa’s homeland! Our team are raising money for charity When You Wish Upon A Star Scotland. The Scottish registered charity helps to bring smiles to children aged 4-16 years who live with a life-threatening illness by giving them memories to treasure. From our head office in Howwood, Johnstone to Santa’s home in Rovaniemi, Lapland, Finland, the distance is approximately 4350km, and crosses 11 countries. Our team of over 60 people are splitting the mileage, with each team member completing their own distance by either walking, running or cycling, all within current socially distanced guidelines. The team have five days to reach Santa! Start date is Monday 15th June with proposed arrival at the Arctic Circle on Friday 19th June. Manorview has supported When You Wish Upon A Star for over three years. During that time our team have ran, cycled, climbed mountains and trekked. They have donated over £30k, which has enabled the charity to grant Wishes for children. The Wish families also visit our Busby Hotel every year, where we treat them to a Disney-themed Afternoon Tea Party. The Covid-19 pandemic is affecting all industries, including the charity sector. When You Wish Upon A Star have their Wish granting on hold, as the health and safety of the Wish children and their families is paramount. The charity has also lost valuable funds due to the cancellation of many fundraising events, including their own 30th birthday celebrations. Our team wanted to help a charity we have a long association with. They also wanted to ensure children from Scotland can continue to have their Wishes granted, and their families are able to enjoy some of the precious memories many of us take for granted. One of the charity’s Wishes is a magical trip to Lapland. Around 40 Wish children from all over Scotland, who meet the charity’s criteria, visit Rovaniemi with their families. Together they play in the forest among the reindeer and huskies, toast marshmallows over a campfire and visit the ‘real’ Santa.Families get to enjoy time together, share magical moments and set aside thoughts and worries of hospital visits for a day. The Magic of Lapland trip is entirely funded by the charity’s supporters, where a seat on the plane costs £450. We thank you very much for all your kind donations and for helping us to reach our target. It means a lot to us, to the charity and Wish families. Our aim is to raise as much funds as we can, as we know it will be very much appreciated. Follow our team as they will be walking, running and cycling as hard as they can during their five-day challenge to reach Santa’s home! Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
