Story
I am running the run to the beat half marathon on the 28th October 2012. This is going to be my first ever long distance run - 13.1 miles (scary!) I am doing this with my 'personal trainer' and very good friend, Dan Staples.
I am running for the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), they work to promote and protect the cardiac health of young people. CRY are able to test the hearts of young people to detect if there are any underlying cardiac problems that may lead to Sudden Arrhythmia Death Syndrome (also known as sudden adult death syndrome or SADS) and preventative measures can be put in place.
Sadly, I only became aware of SADS when I suddenly lost my best friend, Paul Wilkins four years ago. He had an undetected cardiac condition. These conditions do not have noticable physical symptoms and can occur in anyone - even people who are fit and have healthy lifestyles. CRY also works with families who have suddenly lost a loved one to support them through such a difficult time Even if you can only afford a pound it would be very much appreciated and help give me the incentive to get across that finish line on the day.
For more information on CRY and the work they do visit the website http://www.c-r-y.org.uk/index.htm
