Story
The Purplewave brings together University students, staff and alumni through our mass participation running, walking or jogging events!
The University of Manchester Purplewave was established in 2016 and has continued to raise money for good causes ever since. We would like you to consider using this opportunity to raise money for the Re-Write cancer campaign – which is working to build a brand new custom designed research facility after the existing building was damaged by fire in 2017.
If you would prefer to raise money for a different cause which is close to your heart then that is great as well. Please register by clicking ‘Join team’ above and then creating a fundraising page for your chosen charity, so we can highlight the extent of everyone’s fundraising efforts.
You can raise money through this page if you are taking part in any of the Purplewave events 2022 as listed:
Event 1 – 9th March 2022 - 2.5km or 5km, run, walk or jog
Event 2 – 22nd May 2022 - 10km or half marathon, run, walk or jog

There will be prizes on offer to an individual and a group who secure the largest amount through their fundraising and are registered on this page.
More about our chosen cause:
We all know someone whose life has been changed by cancer, which is why researchers in Manchester are working hard to improve how cancer is treated and help more patients with cancer get back to normal life. This is where we can help. Working in partnership with Europe's largest cancer hospital, The Christie, and Cancer Research UK, The University of Manchester is building a world-leading cancer research centre. The new centre will bring together one of the largest concentrations of doctors, nurses and researchers in Europe all working together to tackle cancer head-on. But this will only be possible with the help of people like us. Please join me in re-writing the future of cancer by sponsoring me today! Learn more about how the University is re-writing cancer here: www.manchester.ac.uk/cancerappeal. Thank you for your support!
