Story

Hi! I'm Helen Anker and I am an actress. You can read my biography below.

Before lockdown, I was performing in the UK National Tour of Mamma Mia!

I was so disappointed that it had to stop because I was really enjoying my role as Tanya from Donna and the Dynamos - it's so much fun!

I got in touch with Chickenshed because I really wanted to help them raise some vital funds during these times of uncertainty and I’ve now got some time on my hands - Chickenshed is a very special charity and is a lifeline for so many young people and their families.

To help Chickenshed, I am going to do an online Mamma Mia workshop where I will be teaching you the choreography and singing sections from Dancing Queen and Waterloo from the show finale!

I think that everyone will enjoy it, so spread the word to your family and friends - it’s for all ages and abilities.

Gemma from Chickenshed has asked if I'd like to do a Q&A after the workshop and I'd love to answer any questions you might have about any aspect of performing or backstage life - please send any questions you might have to gemmak@chickenshed.org.uk in advance or during the workshop.

Hope you can join Gemma and I on Sunday 2 August at 7pm! It will be suitable for all ages and abilities.

The event will stream live from this page, so all you need to do is:

- click on this URL link at 7pm on Sunday 2 August and

- make a donation on this page to take part*

Thank you for helping me to keep Chickenshed safe,

Helen x

* suggested donation £10 or pay whatever you can afford! I really want this session to be accessible to all.

Biography - Helen Anker

I feel very lucky to have had a wonderful and successful career in Musical Theatre for the past 28 years. I trained at White Lodge, The Royal Ballet School and Bird College.

I started working in Musicals in The West End immediately after leaving College from the original cast of ‘Crazy For You’ straight to ‘Cats’, followed by small roles in ‘Fame’, “Hard Times’, ‘Oklahoma’ (with Hugh Jackman) then leading roles in ‘Contact’, ‘On The Town’, ‘Beautiful and Damned’ and ‘Parade’. I also worked in many Regional Theatres around the UK , before gaining a Green Card to move to The USA where I opened in a new production of ‘Promises Promises’ on Broadway in New York City.
I then played many wonderful roles in Theatre across the country and roles in some Television shows and danced in Films for the next 8 years.

On returning to London after living and working in Los Angeles, I performed in Cats at Kilworth House in a reinvention of the show…. then landed the role of Tanya in the UK and International tour of Mamma Mia! which was what I was performing till this time.
