Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On Sunday 22nd November 2009 at 9:00am I will be running a 30 mile ultra-distance run. This will start from my own house and head to Trentham Gardens, this is 4 mile, and from there taking on the exact old Potteries Marathon route around the city, which is 26.2 mile. The 30 mile finishing point will be at Trentham Gardens near the Parish Church.

I will be the only runner invloved, although some family will be supporting me on pedal cycles along the route, this is not a race, the target is purely finishing the distance. The idea came from my wish to run an ultra marathon, after already completeing 7 marathons. I have linked this idea with recently celebrating my 30th birthday and had the idea 30 miles for 30 years!!

Once this idea was born, I wanted to complete the distance in myhome town and support a local charity at the same time and I have chosen the Douglas Macmillan Hospice which is a charity closely supported by my place of work Fortis Insurance Solutions.

By way of background, the Douglas Macmillan Hospice is a local adult only hospice which was established in 1973. Douglas Macmillan is an independent registered charity for people in North Staffordshire and the surrounding area who are faced with cancer and other terminal illnesses. Specialist palliative care, help and support are given to patients, their families and carers at the Hospice in Blurton, in the community, and at home. The hospice do not charge for the care and help they provide yet it costs over £7 million per year to run. It provides care and services like nowhere else in Staffordshire, the hospice relies on voluntary donations for more than two thirds of all of the funds required. So please dig deep, remember, every donation creates a ripple that makes a difference...

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thank you for your support
