Story
After failing my first marathon attempt back in April 2017, I re-entered the Manchester Marathon way back in October 2019 - it was time to put it to bed!!
Little did I know that a global pandemic would come along and delay the event by 18 months. I also had no idea what else was to come...
In January this year, my Dad, Malcolm Lawson, was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Sadly, he never even had the chance to fight it as he contracted Covid-19 and passed away just a few weeks later on the 11th February.
Clearly, entering the marathon wasn't originally associated with my Dad, and for a long while I wasn't planning on changing that. But I'm currently sat watching the London Marathon and seeing everyone running for a charity made me think - if they can, I can.
As a very organised man, my Dad wouldn't be impressed with this last minute scramble for fundraising - sorry Dad. But if I can raise even a few pounds for a well deserving charity, I know he'd be very proud.
He didn't get the opportunity to benefit from the work of Cancer Research UK - but thousands of people do on a daily basis and it would be great to help them carry on this vital work.
Any support you can offer would be really appreciated.
Thank you.
