Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Malcolm was born in Edinburgh and educated at Daniel Stewart’s College where he first gained his love of sport and often volunteered at Murrayfield as part of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme. Having completed his education he moved down to Beaconsfield and following one year in employment trained at Westminster College in Oxford as a teacher of Mathematics and Physical Education.
His first teaching post was in Harefield followed by a lengthy spell at The Manor School in Ruislip (subsequently Bishop Ramsey Church of England School) where he made many friends over the years including staff and pupils who remain in contact to this day. His final post was at Abbotsfield Boys’ School in Hillingdon.
Falling roles forced him to seek employment elsewhere and he had 12 wonderful years at Bemist in the delightful setting of Great Hampden working as part of a very supportive IT school’s team (mostly ladies and almost all blondes!).
Sport was a lifelong interest and Malcolm was involved in Basketball and Tennis as a player, organiser and referee. Rugby was his greatest passion playing for Beaconsfield, Ruislip and High Wycombe before taking up the whistle and more recently as an assessor of referees for the south west group which he found very fulfilling. He was a tireless supporter of both Scottish Rugby and Wasps holding a season ticket at both Adams Park and Coventry.
In 2011 he was forced to retire due to the emergence of bone cancer in his right femur but excellent medical care got him back on his feet but sadly it re-emerged in late 2019 and despite two further operations on his back the disease spread. Following his second operation in March 2020 he had amazing support and specialist nursing care from the Rennie Grove Team based in Buckinghamshire and West Hertfordshire who monitored pain relief and more practical matters acquiring physiotherapy and medication immediately when needed. Malcolm would be delighted to think that you could make a difference by a small donation to this wonderful charity who receive only 13% of their funds from the NHS and have to raise the remaining 87% to cover the cost of their range of services. Be assured that any donation will be put to good use allowing patients with cancer or a life-limiting illness the choice to stay at home surrounded by family and friends.
