This is my first ever marathon and I'm slightly petrified to be honest. I've done a half before and load of 10ks but this is something else! I signed up to do it 20 years ago but sadly had to pull out. Soooo, when the opportunity came to run to help raise support for the National Eczema Society – I had to try again!

Eczema is a debilitating disease that impacts millions and millions across the UK. It affects 1 in 5 children and up to 1 in 10 adults. Every day they live with the physical pain of poorly controlled symptoms. It massively impacts their quality of life and often leads to depression
and anxiety. Last year I saw a horrible statistic from the Global Patient Initiative to Improve Eczema Care who surveyed 3,000 patients who said they would give up between 17-36% of their remaining life to be eczema free.

You’ll forgive me for not going into it but I’ve seen the day to day impact of suffering with eczema with close members of my own family. The worst part is knowing there is no cure for eczema. Instead
millions have to live with this chronic condition and rely on the NHS to help them manage the symptoms. But the NHS is under immense pressure and eczema does not receive the kind of prioritisation that other conditions do. Patients can be waiting over a year to
be seen by a dermatologist.

This is why the work of the National Eczema Society is so important,
as they can provide crucial advice and support that can bridge the gap while patients wait, providing an extensive range of eczema information and advice services and resources. You can see some the work they do here and some of the stories of those that live with eczema here.
