Story
I am going to cycle the 174 miles from Ravenglass on the west coast in to on the east coast. The route starts at the Roman Bath House in Ravensglass and having gone north up the west coast to Bowness –on – Solway then roughly follows the line of Hadrian’s Wall to Newburn before joining the Tyne river path to finish at Arbeia Roman Fort at the mouth of the . As you can see there will be a lot of Roman sites to visit along the way and I also hope to have time to drop in on Stephenson’s Cottage. When am I doing it?
The ride will start around midday on May 17th and finish on the evening of 20th May. Why am I doing it? Well as probably a lot of you will know in 2005 I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease which is a Lymphoma, following 6 months of Chemotherapy I was declared clear ‘Praise the Lord’ and for me this fulfils two objectives; 1) to prove to me that I am now fit enough to take on this challenge and 2) because I used the Lymphoma Association site quite a lot during my treatment and found it full of useful practical rmation (the sort of stuff the Doctors don’t tell you), especially the accounts of other people who had gone through the same treatment regime I was doing. This was both encouraging and rmative and made me realise I was not alone and lots of others were asking the same questions I wanted answers to. For this reason I would like to raise some much needed funds to ensure its there for others to use. What’s New?
Well the ride is now over, it was very interesting and varied route, well signed. Only went off course a couple of times and not by far. The weather was excellent, not too hot but always clear and dry. The coastal views are amazing and the hills around Haltwhistle and Hexham very special. I can recommend it as a route to do.
Now for the stats.
I started at 1.00pm on the 17th and finished at 2.00pm on the 20th. 174.22 miles covered at an average of 10.5mph, maximum speed 33.9mph and best of all no punctures.
With the money already given and pledged it looks as if I will reach my target of £500, which I am very pleased with. Thank you to all
