Story
Hi!
As you probably know, for some time I've loved running, mainly for pleasure and the challenge. Last year my Dad was diagnosed with dementia, more specifically, Alzheimer's Disease. Alzheimer's is hideous disease that gradually destroys brain function, becoming more and more severe. At the moment my Dad can still drive, and his symptoms are limited to a noticeable loss of short term memory and confusion. It will get worse.
One in three people over the age of 65 in the UK will die of dementia. Dementia is not a natural part of ageing. It is a debilitating illness which robs people of their lives. Millions of families across the UK are affected by dementia. Alzheimer’s Society supports people with dementia today and funds research to provide hope for the future.
Whilst there is little hope of preventing the gradual decline in my Dad's health, there is hope for the future. Please sponsor me generously so that Alzheimer's society can continue their invaluable research towards discovering how to beat this disease.
