Story
Brace yourselves...I know I am a little bonkers.
I completed the 100km London To Brighton last year in a not dis-respectable 29 hours 16mins with two injured friends. This year I am doing it again (May 27th/28th) but this time using it as a warm up challenge and aim to complete it in <24 hours.
*UPDATED* The main challenge has been modified due to a variety of circumstances and will now involve a ~180 mile trip now termed 'There and Back Again, Again' to Brighton from my home in Surrey. This will still be in <24 hours which will be in August 2017 (exact date TBC depending on weather).
Why am I doing this?
I have for a very long time wanted to raise awareness for the condition MRKH (Mayer Rokitansky Kuster Hauser) syndrome. This little known condition affects 1 in 5000 women and means that they are born without a womb and an underdeveloped vagina, unable to carry their own children. Often finding out in their teenage years it is a very stressful and anxious time when many feel there is no one there to support them. I am supporting MRKH Connect, a UK charity very close to my heart which helps provide sponsorship for MRKH women to attend support group meetings whilst also providing them a forum to meet online discuss in a safe environment. Something which is much needed at what is often a very difficult time particularly straight after diagnosis when everything seems so very overwhelming.
This is important for me because it is a condition I have and I know what it feels like to feel alone and need support and its still something that isn't readily diagnosed by GPs often taking a distressing amount of time for girls and women to get the support they need to even share their story and know that they are not alone.
I hope to raise awareness by what I am doing and the blog that I have whilst also fighting some personal demons through these challenges which will push me more than I have ever been pushed before.
